Neurology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of disorders of the nervous system which is a complex, sophisticated system that regulates and coordinates body activities by its two major divisions the Central nervous system consisting of brain and spinal cord and the Peripheral nervous system with all other neural elements. The neurologist treats disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, such as:
- Cerebrovascular disease, such as stroke including 24*7 acute ischemic stroke thrombolysis for patients arriving within the time window of 4.5 hours after onset of stroke through our SCRIPT (Stroke care by rapid intervention with tissue plasminogen activator and thrombectomy) programme which is one of the components of Tamilnadu accident and emergency initiative (TAEI) by our state government.
- Demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis
- Headache disorders
- Infections of the brain and peripheral nervous system
- Movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease
- Neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease,
and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
- Seizure disorders, such as epilepsy
- Spinal cord disorders
- Speech and language disorders.
We carry out academic activities for UG and PG medical students and Bsc allied health sciences students and also help them in carrying out the department research activities.
