The Department of General Medicine is functioning from the inception of this college since 2010. It has grown leaps and bounds since then .
It has 4 Medicine Units each having 35 beds catering to the patients. It has 20 bedded HDU (High dependency unit), well equipped . Apart from this it has 10 bedded ICCU (Intensive Coronary Care Unit)and 10 bedded INU (Intensive Nephrology Unit).We give special care to fever cases by admitting sick cases in fever ICU(5 beds) and fever ward ( 20 beds).
The General Medicine Department is headed by 1 Professor/ HOD – Dr.M.Nataraj M.D (GEN).It has 4 Associate Professors, 7 Assistant Professors and 4 Senior Residents.

General Medicine department has an annual intake of 8 Post Graduates per year (Total of 24 PG’S for 3 years so far) as approved by NMC.
On an average, Medicine Department receives 300 Out Patients and 50-60 In- Patients per day. Out of which 50% are referrals from Peripheral Hospitals. Out of total admissions per day, more than 50% of patients are emergencies.
We handle all type of emergency cases like thrombolysis for Myocardial infarction and Stroke cases. Our department has also been doing dialysis for acute and chronic cases as well as for poisoning cases. We receive different types of poisoning cases and have treated many of them.
We conduct regular academic activities for both undergraduate and post graduate students. On every Wednesday , Physicians Conference meeting is being conducted for 2hrs in which all rare and interesting cases will be discussed, attended by all faculties, Postgraduates and Crri’s.
On alternate Mondays, Journal Club and Symposium would be conducted with active participation from all the faculties. On the other days, General clinics for the Post Graduates are conducted by Associate Professors and Assistant Professors. Specialty clinics are organized by Assistant Professors from various Medical specialities.
Department encourages Assistant professors and Postgraduates in doing various research activities and studies. Assistant professors and post graduates have conducted many studies which have been published in various journals.
Overall the department strives to provide quality education to the Post graduate and Under Graduate students and provide the best of care for the patients.
