Department of Anaesthesiology at Government Thiruvarur Medical College was founded in 2010. Currently the faculty strength is 20 with One as Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 5 Assistant Professors, 5 Senior residents and 6 Junior residents.
Ours is a Postgraduate teaching institution since 2020 with yearly intake of 6 seats in MD Anaesthesiology and also running paramedical programmes like B.Sc. in Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre technology with 20 seats and 1 year Diploma courses. Our department provides Anaesthesia services to all surgical specialties including General surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Urology, Neurosurgery and Oro Facial maxillary surgeries in elective as well as emergencies. We also extend our services to outside operating room procedures and critically ill patients in ICU.
We have equipped with 13 modern operation theatres, Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Pre Anaesthesia Assessment clinic, Pain clinic and lecture rooms. Our department provides 24*7 anaesthesia services in all emergencies. We are equipped with advanced equipments like video laryngoscope, Fiberoptic bronchoscope (FOB), PFT analyzer, Point of care USG (POCUS) and Invasive blood pressure monitoring for providing quality anaesthesia services. Our department regularly conducts academic activities like case discussion, journal clubs, internal audit, Continued Medical Education programs (CME), BLS and ACLS workshops.
We encourage our students to participate in state and national conferences conducted by ISA and other bodies. Our students excelled in various competitions and won many accolades. We also take part in Brain Dead Organ Donor management as part of TRANSTAN since November 2022. Our primary vision is to provide an excellent anaesthesia care, skills and training to young doctors to become competent anaesthesiologists.
