Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Department of obstetrics and Gynaecology at Government Thiruvarur Medical College was founded in 2010. Currently the faculty strength is 16 with One as Professor, 2 Associate Professors,  5 Assistant Professors including 1 antenatal medical officer, 1 maternal child health officer, 2 Senior residents and 6 Junior residents. Ours is a Postgraduate teaching institution since 2020 with yearly intake of 2 seats in MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Operation Theatre facilities 24×7 . Ours is a CEmONC centre offering Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn care Services which are running successfully with zero maternal deaths. We also extend our services as tertiary care center managing about 300 of Referral  in cases every month effectively.We have   SICU, labour HDU equipped with ventilator settings managing high risk cases. Our department provides 24*7 operative services in all obstetric emergencies. Our department also provide effective family planning services and safe abortion services. We are equipped with advanced equipment like Hysteroscopy, Video laproscopy aiding in Gynaecologic surgeries. Our department regularly conducts academic activities like case discussion every week, journal clubs every month, Department  audit includes Maternal death audit, perinatal death audit, C-section section audit, Infection control audit, family planning audit, IUD/still birth audit, Cardio obstetrics audit, Near miss audit, referral in and out audit, CEmONC Co-ordination meeting. We have also conducted  Continued Medical Education programs (CME), Seminars, guest lectures, tutorials, group discussion for post graduates and undergraduates. We encourage our students to participate in state and national conferences conducted by  other bodies. Our students excelled in various competitions and won many accolades. We have recently working on Laqshya-clean labour room initiative.  Our primary vision is to provide an timely meticulous maternal care with respectful birth experience and reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and Mortalityand training to young doctors to become competent Obstetrictians and Gynacologists .
